Jackie Alway OBE, EVP International Legal & Industry Affairs, Universal Music Publishing Group. Jackie is an experienced music publisher and campaigner for copyright and creators’ rights. Her role at UMPG includes multi-territorial digital licensing, public policy and society relations. Jackie is a Board director of the International Confederation of Music Publishers (the global trade body for music publishers), the UK MPA, PMLL, the PRS Council and Board, MPA Ireland and MCPS Ireland. She is the Chair of MCPS Ltd. Jackie studied Law at Christ’s College, Cambridge before qualifying as a Solicitor with The Simkins Partnership. She was Director of Commercial Affairs at BMG Music Publishing, joining UMPG following its acquisition of BMG in 2006 At Universal she is engaged in the effort to protect and strengthen copyright globally ex US. Jackie pioneers global structures for digital licensing and licensing frameworks for musical works around the world, including in developing markets such as the UAE, India and China. Jackie was Chair of the UK MPA for 4 years and is a committed campaigner on behalf of the MPA and ICMP in Europe. In 2019, Jackie was awarded an OBE for services to the music industry in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
